The Budget Highlighter That's Got Me All A-Glowin'

The Makeup Revolution VIVID Highlighter in Golden Lights is a beaut, and there's not much more to say.

I've been in the market for a highlighter for possibly a year, if not longer. I've longed for my cheekbones to cut glass and blind my enemies in one fell swoop, and I've just not found anything that really hits the spot.

You have no idea how many times my finger has been hovered over the 'checkout' button on Cult Beauty to purchase, obviously, BECCA's Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed in Moonstone (because I have a feeling that Champagne Pop might be a little bit too warm for my skin tone, and in my palest of times where I virtually resemble Caspar the Ghost, I could probably get away with it as a bronzer). Everyone and their dog has this highlighter now so I've been on the lookout for something a little more purse friendly - the £32 price tag made my eyes water a teeny bit, but it's just so beautiful - but still manages to make me feel all the highlighter feels.

As a brand, I find that Makeup Revolution absolutely kills it. They have budget beauty area absolutely down in my opinion, some others just don't even come close. I mean, can we talk about their eyeshadow palettes for a second? Swoon. When I saw they had some highlighters on their stand, I was over there like a shot. Unfortunately it seemed like most others had been attracted to the stand also, as there was only 2 of their 3 offerings left - Golden Lights and Peach Lights. I swatched both on the back of my hand, and the pigmentation of both made me want to just carry both of them to the checkout right there and then. But, I resisted, mainly because the loigical part of my brain thought that I'd have the same problem with Peach Lights as I would with Champagne Pop - namely, it would be a tad too warm for my pale skin. It had been Radiant Lights I was after, but I was more than happy to take home Golden Lights to add to my collection. And - it was only £3. Yep, three pounds.

On the cheek, it's a tad chunky sometimes if you overload it too much - or maybe that's the brush I'm using. I'm still figuring out which brush is the best to use to get the right amount of product (if you have a recommendation, please let me know in the comments!). However, my cheekbones cut glass and blind my enemies, so it does exactly what I need it to. Is my BECCA Moonstone urge dissipated? Not entirely, and it's probably not going to be long before it's in my collection. But for now, Makeup Revolution does a perfectly good highlighter for their price point.

Have you tried a budget highlighter that's wowed you recently?

  1. You're so right! MUA are a great brand- cruelty free, reasonable and products are spot on for the price. I hear that a fan brush is best for a light dusting of highlighter (light dusting? Honey plz) but I'm yet to find one that aesthetically fits in my collection... Wow, that sounds very sad! xx
